Facilitation skills matter! A great facilitator uses a variety of techniques to make meetings interactive and collaborative. No matter what types of meetings you lead, great facilitation skills will help you get more reliable and enthusiastic participation from your stakeholders.
Here’s a story from a BA who attended our April Interactive Facilitation Workshop:
“I recently facilitated a strategic planning session with my organization’s leadership team. Our meeting was scheduled to begin at 8PM on a Monday evening. The stakeholders had already put in a full day of work, so I was pessimistic about their ability to focus and brainstorm. I applied various techniques from your April workshop to make the meeting visually and physically interactive.
To my surprise, here’s what I observed:
- Deep and meaningful discussions.
- All attendees were engaged and focused on the meeting tasks.
- No one multi-tasked during the 2-hour meeting! (Even the guy who ALWAYS has his phone out during meetings participated 100%.)
Here are the comments I heard from participants:
- ‘I usually get bored during our meetings, but this meeting was really great.’
- ‘Let’s make more time to continue this process. We are going to discover something really important.’
- ‘I really enjoyed the quality of the interaction I had with the team–such an open and friendly environment.'”
